Oh, man. Misinformation is a sort of running joke among AMC folk. “You know, the 390 in that thar Javelin’s a Ford motor.” Or my favorite: “AMC built cars using only other companies’ parts.”
Came across a link today for the “Rare Breed,” which the owner believes to be an actual Trans Am Javelin.
First off, it ain’t. Go to the discussion about this car at the AMC Forums, then come back and try to prove this car – or any car with a fiberglass firewall – competed in Trans Am.
Second, even if it were, he oughta be smacked for turning a piece of history into a purple-and-yellow drag car. I don’t care if he’s running 10.50s.
Third, what would prompt anybody to install a fiberglass firewall, especially in 1971?
At least he kept an AMC 401 in it. Or is that a Buick V-8…?
